Bonjour chers Parents,

It is a real pleasure and honor to teach your child this year.  We are committed in engaging the students in authentic task that will make their learning meaningful.  We believe that all children are unique and able to contribute in our Kindergarten community.  Personalizing the instruction of each child is part of our daily routine.  Thank you for letting us be part of your child's education!. We are looking forward to a great year together!

BACK TO SCHOOL

It has been wonderful meeting all of you at the conferences and getting to know the children in the last few weeks.  We have been very  busy  learning the class expectations and routines of the classroom.  The children have come a long way since the beginning of September.

Every week or two, we will be posting the learning of the past week.  If your child has difficulty sharing what he/she did at school, look at the blog together.  It will hopefully help him/her open up a bit more.
Oral French/Early literacy
Here are a few sentences that the children have learned in the last two weeks:

  • Je m'appelle _______.    (My name is   ______)
  • Puis-je aller aux toilettes?   (May I go to the washroom?)
  • Je suis une fille/garcon.   (I am a girl/boy.)
  • Je suis ici.   (I am here.)

We will continue learning the colors of fall.  Her are a few sentences that we are learning:

  • La feuille est rouge.   (The leaf is red.)
  • La feuille est jaune.   (The leaf is yellow.)
  • La feuille est orange. (The leaf is orange.)
  • La feuille est verte.    (The leaf is green.)
  • La feuille est brune.   (The leaf is brown.)
We will be starting the alphabet this week.  Our first letter will be S.
Thank you for sending apples to school.
Math:
The children are counting the days on our calendar and days of school.   We are also learning simple ABAB patterns.  We created a bar graph to see how many boys and girls we have in the class.

Fine motor:
With dry peas, the children created their name.  I love observing the children doing this activity.  It tells me a lot about  their fine motor skills, focus, following instruction, and their ability to start and finish work.

Music
We are often going on Youtube for French songs.  The children are learning the song “Bonjour, comment ca va?” and “Je me lave les  mains.  You are welcome to listen to it at home.  We are also learning a fall song called "C'est l'automne".  Here is picture of an activity we did at the carpet while learning the song.  We have leaves on a sheet.  While singing, the children shake the sheet to make the leaves fly.  They absolutely loved it!

Arts

We are creating a fall tree using different material,  using a collage and print techniques.  Have a look at a few creations.  They are stunning!

Science

We went on a nature walk around the school to notice the signs of fall.  During our walk the children made a collection of different kind of leaf.  On our way back to class, the children had great ideas of what to do with them such as sorting by colors, counting them, and making crafts.
